Bike shops can be intimidating places. Whether we like it or not, they’re kind of like weird clubs, almost boutique the way a lot of them treat their customers, but here are a few tips you should look out for when you’re finding a decent store:
Everybody knows that they’re merely doing their jobs, but we normally can’t help but feel annoyed every time a store attendant comes to us with that challenging question: “What are you looking for?” Personally when this happens, I feel that I’d rather not be bothered; that I should be allowed to the time to look at a few things ourselves. But in this case, especially if you’re not familiar with what you want or need, bike shops attendants that bugging you for interaction can be a welcome gesture; particularly if we do not know much about bikes.
It’s not always about price:
Bike shops should meet certain demands that make them a quality organization. You are incorrect if you think it is merely all about selling the well-known and priciest brands of bikes. With bikes, it’s all about personal preference. And bike shops need to be able to assist you find it.
A good bike shop should offer bikes in a broad range of types and sizes. The more they need to provide, the more chances of you finding exactly what you desire.
Sit on it:
You can not really feel until you actually analyze a bike how great it handles. If you are in brick-and-mortar bike shop, feel free to ask if you can test drive it. You’ll be surprised at how many people say, “sure”! The great shops would at least let you ride most of the times in at least a stationary position so you can at least get a feel for it, even if they don’t, try it out. Bikes aren’t cheap, and until they stop you, you should do all you can to make sure you have the best selection that matches your comofort needs.
Another great quality of a bike store that is good is when fitting services are offered by them, or at least its attendants know anything about fitting a bike. In other words, they urge bikes according to various measurements and your physique. By doing this, you can take home a bike that just matches your shape and guarantee yourself the most comfortable ride that you can.
Don’t get us wrong about sales goals:
Shops that are super popular will likely have attendants that try not push any bikes on you. Some aren’t like this however. Some shops will feel demanded for their sales stats, commissions, and the like and certainly will try to fool you into acquiring a bike which you don’t even desire. As stated earlier, an ideal bike for you is what you wish to ride. Stick to that principle. For example, don’t let them talk you out of a fixie because they appear to hate fixies in the event you’re set on it.
There are tons of good bike stores out there. Customized bikes are offered by some of the top ones, and you can save a bit of cash out of it if you’re up for it. Good luck, and safe riding!
